Thanks for this beautiful collection of Paper Moon fairground photographs. In Germany we did not have this ritual, and I would love to know more about it. Was it limited to the depression era? Why is the moon sometimes sad? Has the motif a deeper continuity in American culture, as it reappears also in the logo of "Dreamworks", not to mention the Bogdanovich film?
